The Campaign for the Health and Wellness Facility
Dedicated to Health and Wellness
Improving personal health and wellness outcomes today and for generations to come.
Urbana, as well as the broader region, is greatly impacted by rising obesity rates, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer. The demand for an affordable and accessible community Health and Wellness Facility is greater than ever.
Urbana needs a facility that will offer extended hours, accessible programs, and space to grow as the community continues to grow. The Urbana Park District (UPD) believes that you belong here. This mantra will guide the development of a comprehensive health and wellness facility.
The goal of the UPD Health and Wellness Facility is to offer a welcoming, motivating environment that safely engages and benefits everyone.
Following an extensive community-focused planning and site selection process, the UPD officially broke ground for the facility in May of 2023 at the site on East Washington Street, between the Brookens Center and Preston Williams Elementary.
Our Vision
A health and wellness facility located in Urbana’s Prairie Park
The Health & Wellness Facility will be easily accessible to Urbana and the surrounding region, via Washington Street and other main thoroughfares, and directly located on a public transit route. It will connect to other Park District trails and amenities. It is in close proximity to the Urbana School District’s Prairie Campus.
This endeavour marks the largest construction project in the history of the Urbana Park District, made possible by private donations, state grants, and local grants. The estimated cost for the center is $14.6 million, and teh UPD was awarded $2 million in City of Urbana ARPA funds, as well as $500,000 in Champaign County ARPA funds for the project.
“Many families in our community will benefit greatly from having access to a facility like this. The ways that this is going to benefit our community — we can’t even see all of them yet.”

Tennis Court Revitalization at Blair Park
Blair Park Tennis Alumni along with the Urbana Park District and Urbana Parks Foundation are excited to launch a fundraising effort to revitalize the tennis courts at Blair Park.
Urbana’s Premier Tennis Courts
Updating the courts for future generations of tennis players.
The Urbana Park District was awarded a $400,000 OSLAD grant to revitalize the aging Blair Park. This specific type of grant tends to award new recreational amenities for parks, and as a result, the tennis courts were not included in this recent application. That’s where a group of Blair Park Tennis Alumni and former Urbana Parks Foundation Trustee Nancy Schrumpf came in.
In 2022, we were thrilled to support the UPD in the successful resurfacing of the tennis courts at Blair Park – a project made possible with the support of our generous donors.
Donations covered the costs associated with updating the four tennis courts. Court improvements funded through this campaign included restoration of the asphalt playing surfaces, new tennis posts and nets, sealing and color coating the courts, and fresh painted lines for both tennis and pickleball.
Today when you go to Blair Park, you can see tennis and pickleball enthusiasts of all ages using the courts.
