On May 6, the Urbana Park District officially broke ground for the new Health and Wellness Facility. Located on East Washington Street, between the Brookens Center and Preston Williams Elementary, the new facility will provide a welcoming and motivating environment, with amenities based on feedback from the community and research into similar facilities aroound the midwest.
The new Health & Wellness center will be the largest construction project in Urbana Park District history, made possible by private donations, state grants, and local grants, including $2 million in ARPA funds from the City of Urbana.
City, county and state officials joined the Urbana Parks Foundation, the Urbana Park District Board of Commissioners, and members of the public to take the ceremonial first scoops of dirt.
The new building should be complete in late 2024.
